Welcome to the Home Page of the
Charleston Area
Ladies' Tennis Association

CALTA is a nonprofit 501(c)(7) volunteer-run social tennis league.

CALTA was formed in 2000 as the successor to
Charleston City League, which had its unofficial start in 1973.

Click on CALTA Charter
for CALTA's history and covenants/by-laws.

CALTA's mission is to:
1) promote women's tennis in the Charleston Area;
2) provide a venue for fair play, good sportsmanship and
competitive doubles tennis at different levels of ability;
3) identify junior women's tennis needs in the Charleston Area
and apply CALTA's available resources
in support of them (CALTA Charter, art. IV).

As stated in Section II of the CALTA Charter,
an individual participates in CALTA through membership on a team --
and is registered as a member by her team captain.
An individual interested in joining should inquire
with her local tennis center.
A member can play on only one team.
CALTA plays four courts of doubles on Tuesday mornings.
All matches start at 9:30.
The season starts in August after the start of the
Charleston County Public Schools and
continues through the first week of May.

CALTA Junior Recognition Program
Since its inception in 2002, CALTA's Junior Recognition Program
has recognized 490 junior girls in our local area --
with 840 grants totaling $210,900.

Our members have been very generous at our annual luncheon fundraisers
for the benefit of
the program.   Although we could not hold our
luncheon/fundraiser in 2020 or 2021, we have been able to continue to
fund the Junior Program -- since each member's annual dues
includes a significant amount to subsidize luncheon expenses.
As indicated in our Financial Report (link above), a portion of the luncheon subsidy
in our member dues was allocated to fund the 2020 and 2021 programs.

Click here for information on the Junior Recognition Program.

The CALTA Board met on October 18 to review the nominations for the 2021 program.

The Board is pleased to announce that all 70 nominees were recognized.

CALTA's Rules state that when a specific on-court situation
is not covered by CALTA Rules, USTA Rules/Code will apply.
As a social league, CALTA has some rules and expectations
that are different from USTA -- and captains are asked to make sure
that their players are familiar with them ...

for an explanation of the differences.

Team Rosters 2021-2022

Division 1    Division 2    Division 3    Division 4    Division 5   Division 6

Members can be added to a team roster by the team captain at any time during the season.
After the season starts, a player can transfer only once.

Captains ... To add a member:
Step 1 --
Submit an addition form or send an e-mail to gvglvg@msn.com
Step 2 -- Mail a $40 dues check (payable to CALTA) for the new member immediately
to the CALTA treasurer with a note clearly indicating
the player's name, division/team and captain name.

If you make a change or addition to your roster and
do not see it in the website the following day,
you may need to "refresh"  your page.
If it's still not there, send an e-mail to gvglvg@msn.com

Captains: Click here for the form to transfer in/out a player or remove a player.

Note: Annual dues (currently $40) do not include
the cost of attending the season-end luncheon.

Dues are nonrefundable, are not pro-rated if a player joins
after the start of the season, and are not transferable
from one player to another -- but, if a player transfers
to another team,  she does not have to pay dues again.
For the rule governing transfer of players between teams, see
Rule II.

Captains, when you submit a request to add to your team
a player who is transferring from another team,

please indicate the team the player is transferring FROM.

Immediately after a match, the home team captain should
send the Total Points on the score sheet to her coordinator
and follow the instructions on the division's score sheet
for transfer of a copy of the score sheet to the coordinator.

Annual Captains' Meetings
Since e-mail and this website fully cover Board communication with captains throughout the season (and given the low team attendance at the annual meeting in 2013), in 2014 the Board decided that it was no longer necessary to hold an annual captains' meeting.
The minutes of CALTA's annual meetings from 2001 through 2013 are available here.
