2016 CALTA Luncheon Photo Album
In
March, all CALTA members (1,014 at year-end!) received an invitation to our season-end
luncheon celebration on May 10.
560 accepted!!
On
the day before the big event, our Board members spent the day setting up at Omar
Auditorium.
It's always a challenging task to transform that large space -- which starts out
rather barren ...
It was a long WORK day!!
Members who visited to deliver fundraiser items had a chance to buy
their raffle tickets early ...
There were a
couple of well-deserved snack breaks to keep up the energy ...
... and it
was inspiring to watch the creativity and efficiency of the
designers from
Loluma (aka Distinctive Events) as they worked their way around our Board ladies
who were setting up the team tables.
The Board set up a table for each team.
The team tables this year ranged in size from 4 members to 20 (the Pearls!)
-- and there was a 21-player table for the three Daniel Island teams who wanted to celebrate
together!
At the center of each team table was a large
colorful bag containing a gift for the team captain -- a car seat cover with a
tennis racquet imprint ... very practical in our hot climate. (Thank You
to Peggy Caulder at Family Circle Tennis Center for helping us with the purchase
of the car seat covers!)
At each
place setting was a member gift -- a CALTA manicure set in a matching
(lime or hot pink) organza bag ...
a useful item to have in your tennis bag!
Also on each
table was a bag of gifts for members who could not attend the luncheon.
On the table of
each of the teams that placed in the top three in its division was a cute
see-through bag of
awards.
The award for the 2015-2016 season was a two-sided racquet-shaped acrylic bag tag --
great for bragging rights all through the year!
By the end of the day, all the tables were ready ...
...
and Loluma's impressive hanging centerpiece of flowering branches was complete!
While the team tables and food tables were being decorated, the fundraiser
display had been set up ...
14 tables full of very appealing items ...
plus large items and plants that were displayed
to the sides of the stage ...
Each of CALTA's 57 teams had donated at least one item
...
combined with those
from individual contributors, there were 140 items --
all for the benefit of
CALTA's Junior Recognition Program.
It was an impressive and varied
collection ... and included many lesson certificates
donated by our local
pros. THANK YOU!
There were too many items to show all of them here ...
but here is a sampling ...
thank you to all our contributors!
When the Board returned early next morning, the
crew from Duvall Events was getting organized ....
...they are a fabulous crew ... no detail
overlooked!
Lynn was ready to sell fundraiser tickets ...
The doors opened -- officially -- at 10:30.
With the help of several Mt. Pleasant
policemen who assisted with the parking, arrival went
smoothly.
(We did receive suggestions for more carpooling next year!)
As the 560 ladies
arrived, they were met at the door by our official greeting crew
who directed them to the welcome tables in the lobby -- organized by Board
member Cheryl.
Thank you to our door greeters and "welcome table" ladies!!
Before the ladies entered the auditorium, they passed the "Take
One" table in
the lobby.
Displayed under our banner welcoming the tennis centers
participating in CALTA was a collection of member gifts from past years. They
disappeared VERY quickly -- an advantage of arriving early!
And
for those who still have the CALTA digital watch (our 2010 member gift), it was
an opportunity to pick up a replacement battery.
The room filled
quickly and the CALTA spirit was very much in evidence as the ladies made
their way to the ticket desk in front of the stage to buy their fundraiser
tickets.
In addition to the ladies who helped at the
ticket desk...
there were
three roving ticket-sellers -- outfitted with special aprons made by
Lynn!
There was a supply of CALTA pens for
ticket buyers to write their names
on the tickets ...
... and some ladies came equipped with their own labels!
Before the food was served, the ladies had an hour to socialize and to review
the fundraiser displays.
As in the past, it was a difficult choice
with so many items ...
the ladies resolved that issue by purchasing many
tickets -- total $11,745!!
That's the highest in CALTA's history -- ALL for the
benefit of junior girls in our local area.
(As every year, an additional
$2,000 will be contributed from our annual dues for the 2016 Junior Program
awards.)
As expected,
the cash bar, set up by Harbor Breeze Restaurant, was well patronized -- with mimosas
once again the most popular choice -- and very busy (we're told we should plan
for
two bars next year!).
The buffet opened at 11:45.
Created and served by Duvall Events (our fifth
year with this wonderful company),
the menu again provided something for every taste.
There were identical
two-line buffets on each side of the room with a salad bar,
tea sandwiches, potato salad, shrimp salad, chicken salad, grilled
vegetables with herbed feta sauce, and a deli selection of sliced meats and
cheeses with rolls.
In
the center aisle of the room were two cold soup choices (cucumber dill and beet borscht with cream
on the side -- which received rave reviews!), a selection of fresh fruit with yogurt dip and
house-made granola -- and delicious desserts. Many ladies headed for
those first!
As always with Duvall, the presentation was
beautiful and the service attentive.
Even with four
buffet lines, with such a large group it was expected there would be a bit of a wait ...
Since ticket sales wouldn't end until 12:15, some ladies continued
to browse the fundraiser tables ...
Some ladies decided to stop at the bar ...
Some teams took the
opportunity to
take a photo ...
Others chatted while waiting in the buffet line ...
... and it didn't take too long for everyone to be served.
At 12:30, as the ladies finished eating, Linda introduced the Board members ...
...
and asked the division coordinators to come up to announce the winning teams in
their divisions.
Since the Division 6 coordinator
could not attend, Linda had the pleasure of announcing the Division 6 results.
Coordinators

(Div. 5)
Along with the division coordinators' thanks to
the captains for their support and good communication throughout the season,
there were some serious/humorous comments about close races and settling ties for first
place in some of the divisions!
As expected, there was enthusiastic celebrating at the winner tables!!
Congratulations to the 2015-2016 winning teams!!

After the recognition of the winning
teams, it was time to learn the winners of the 140 raffle items!
Associated with each item was a numbered bag for the ladies to put their
tickets.
The Board raffle crew mixed up (very thoroughly!!) the tickets inside each bag,
drew a ticket, clipped the winning name onto each bag and brought the
bags to the stage for Pamela's announcement of the winners.
Everyone listened attentively for her name to
be called ....
Amazing how quiet 560 women can be when there's anticipation of a raffle
item win!!
Pamela has designed a very efficient system ...
with Cheryl's announcing help and the efficient Board member "runners", the winners of the 140
items were announced in just half an hour!
Once again the big winners are the many young ladies who will receive awards from
CALTA's 2016 Junior Recognition Program.
The CALTA Board thanks everyone who helped to make
this year's season and luncheon a great success. After the luncheon, the
Board gathered next door at Harbor Breeze to start planning 2017!
Unfortunately not all our Board members were able to be there ...
