2019 CALTA Luncheon Photo Album
(If viewing on your phone, please turn sideways.)

In March, all CALTA members received an invitation
to our season-end luncheon celebration.
550 accepted!

On the day before the big event, our Board members
always spend the day setting up at Omar Auditorium.
When they arrived this year, the ceiling had already been
draped by the designers from Loluma
who had worked the day before
to start the creation of our coastal-themed decor ...

It was a long work day for the Board members
and the ladies who came to help ...

By the end of the day, all the team tables were set up ...

At the center of each team table was
a gift for the team captain --
a "tennis terms" throw blanket
... also handy
for the beach or as a table-cover
at after-match CALTA refreshments time!

At each place setting for the 550 members attending was a
"welcome card" with information on the timing of the fundraiser.

On the back of the card was a list
of the 51 young ladies who had received awards
from CALTA's 2018 Junior Recognition Program.

Also at each place setting in a small gift bag
was a "Keep-It-Cool" neck wrap
in a plastic case with a carabiner clip --
a very useful item in our Charleston summer!
On each table was a bag of gifts for members who could
not attend the luncheon. The captains
were asked to make sure every team member receives one!

The Board set up a table for each team.
We are fortunate that, at Omar, we are able
to accommodate a team of any size at one table.
The team tables ranged in size -- cozy rounds for 4 to 9 players
and combinations of rectangle tables
for larger groups (the Pearls had 22!!).

While the team tables and food tables were being decorated,
the fundraiser display tables had been set up.
Associated with each item was a numbered bag
into which the ladies would put their tickets -- and hope!

There were 14 tables full of very appealing items ...

   ... and some large items
that were displayed to the sides of the stage.

In addition to items from individual contributors,
each of CALTA's 57 teams had donated at least one item --
all for the benefit of CALTA's Junior Recognition Program.

THANK YOU to all our contributors!
Here are just a few of the 100+ items ...

There were many live plants -- always a popular item ...

... and also a "money tree '' (a showstopper -- so creative!)

One table was laden with lesson certificates
generously donated by our local pros ...

When the Board returned early the next morning,
the crew from Duvall Events was getting organized ...

They are a fabulous company ... no detail overlooked!

Our treasurer, Lynn, prepared the raffle ticket sales desk,
with the help of Denise, our Division 5 coordinator ...

The doors opened -- officially -- at 10:30.
It's a long tradition for Pamela and Linda to celebrate
the offical start with mimosas from the cash bar!

Even with our large crowd, arrival went
very smoothly thanks to the assistance of four
Mt. Pleasant police officers (some who come every year!)
to direct parking in Omar's spacious lot.

As the ladies entered the lobby, they were met
at the door by our official greeter, Amy,
who directed them to one of the welcome tables in the lobby --
where there were division lists and floor plans
to help the ladies find their team tables in the large auditorium.

Thank you to all our "welcome table" ladies --
from Amy's "Pearls" team!

Before entering the auditorium, the ladies passed the
"Take One" table in the lobby -- under our
welcome banner listing the tennis centers
participating in CALTA.

This year's "take one" items included a supply of
CALTA mini notebooks (our member gift from 2018).
They disappeared very quickly -- an advantage of arriving early!

The room filled quickly and the CALTA spirit was
very much in evidence
as the ladies made their way to the ticket desk
in front of the stage to buy their raffle tickets.

In addition to the official sales desk, Lynn
had recruited "roving" ticket sellers -- equipped with
her personally designed aprons.

There was a supply of CALTA pens
for ticket buyers to write their names on the tickets.

Before the buffets opened, the ladies had an hour to socialize ....

Many took the opportunity
to take photos with their team-mates ...

Five of our six Division Coordinators had a chance
to get together for a photo.
(Donna, Division 1, was behind the camera!)

From left: Louise (Div. 6), Denise (Div. 5),
Judy (Div. 4), Natalie (Div. 3), Theresa (Div. 2)

Some visited the cash bar -- as always, a popular spot!

In addition to the cash bar, there was a station
for complimentary sodas and iced teas ...

Next to the iced tea station was one of the two displays
of "thank you" notes in the room -- a few of the many received
from the 2018 Junior Program recipients.

Many of the ladies spent the time checking out the raffle tables ...

Once again our members were very generous,
purchasing tickets totalling $11,500 --
all for the benefit of junior girls in our local area.
(An additional $3,000 from our 2019-2020 annual dues
will be contributed to the fund for the 2019 program.)

The buffets opened at 11:45.
Created and served by Duvall Events
(our eighth year with this wonderful company),
the menu again provided something for every taste.

There were identical two-line buffets on each side of the room --
with a large salad bar, shrimp salad, chicken salad,

bean & corn salad, grilled vegetables with herbed feta sauce,
tea sandwiches, and a selection of deli meats and cheeses with rolls.

In the center aisle of the room were two cold soups --
cauliflower vichyssoise and gazpacho -- both very popular ...

Also in the center of the room was a selection
of fresh fruit with yogurt dip
and house-made granola -- and delicious desserts.
As expected, many ladies headed there first!

Even with our large crowd,
it did not take long for everyone to
go through the four buffet lines.
Once again the Board heard rave reviews about
the quality of Duvall's food and service.

As the ladies finished eating,
Linda introduced the Division Coordinators
and Executive Board members ...

... and asked the Division Coordinators to come up to
announce the winning teams in their divisions.

A tall glitzy "WINNER" sign above a table
indicated the team had placed in the top three in its division.
On the table of each of those teams was a
see-through bag containing an award for each team member --
a 2-sided acrylic tag ... great for bragging rights!

Congratulations to the 2018-2019 winning teams!

After the recognition of the winning teams,
it was time to learn the winners of the 100+ raffle items!
The raffle crew mixed up (very thoroughly!)
the tickets inside each numbered bag,
clipped the ticket with the winner's name
onto each bag and brought the bags to the stage.
Pamela has designed a very efficient system ...
with the volunteer "runners", the winners
of the 100+ items were announced in about 40 minutes!

Here are some of the winners ...

... our CALTA Secretary, Carole, was one of the happy winners!

Once again the big winners are the young ladies
who will receive awards from
CALTA's 2019 Junior Recognition Program.

The CALTA Board thanks everyone who helped to make
our 2018-2019 season and luncheon a great success.

See y'all on the courts in August -- the start
of CALTA's 20th season!
